According to recent reports, India's agricultural production ranks second in the world, reaching $543 billion in 2022, surpassing the United States and second only to China, with the European Union at $278 billion. Only India and China have double-digit shares of global agricultural production, with India at 13% and China at 31%.

India has consumed 61,702 MT of agrochemicals in the past year, accounting for only 2% of global consumption, which is divided by category: insecticides continue to dominate the Indian cotton, rice, and vegetable agrochemical market, accounting for 51%, followed by fungicides at 32%, and herbicides at 16%.

India has introduced and adopted new technologies, such as water-saving techniques, to ensure adequate food supply while promoting economic growth. India ranks ninth in pesticide use, while other countries, including the United States and the European Union, such as France, Spain, Italy, and Germany, use more pesticides per unit area and yield than India. This proves that Indian growers use agrochemicals reasonably in different crops. The role played by Indian enterprises is also worth watching. The training programs offered to growers focus on teaching them to use agrochemicals safely and in the best ways.

Fungicides are used to control fungal infections in plants or seeds. In addition to being widely used for storage, they are increasingly being used to protect field tubers, fruits, and vegetables. Fungicides can be directly applied to ornamental plants, trees, field crops, grains, and lawns.

In India, herbicides are used to control perennial and parasitic weeds with resistance, and can also effectively deal with densely planted crops that cannot be weeded manually or mechanically. As labor shortage, the usage of agrochemicals will also increase.

Data shows that the United States is the largest consumer of agrochemicals, with 407,779 MT, followed by Brazil, China, and other countries, as shown in the table below:
